This first touch in the campaign was fun and full of childlike wonder - all playing off the hook, “see the possibilities when you reimagine your data protection.” We were tasked with creating a discover asset that would engage the whitespace… well nothing like a little stop-motion to stop traffic. This piece was ambitious, with additional nights and weekends involved to create the perfect set design and make hundreds of props. Once all of the practicals were created, we spent one day shooting on green the boy and the box, and we had one more day to shoot the practical set.
For the learn asset, or second touch, in the Spectrum Protect campaign, IBM wanted something fun, but not necessarily continuing with stop-motion approach. So we created a “choose your own adventure” style video that mirrored the first video in tone and construct with each scene representing a different value prop of IBM Spectrum Protect. In addition, creative collaboration between myself, the writer and the animator was paramount to in ensure the campaign had a cohesive narrative and look and feel considering we created these pieces several months apart.

IBM was given a new mandate - the New Work of Marketing - which consisted of something called E-school. Our Spectrum Protect clients attended this program and, as part of the requirements, needed a video to activate their new narrative. With a one week timeline and very small budget, we crafted a simple, yet powerful metaphor using building blocks. We took inspiration from the game Jenga, with a twist, what if your data blocks don’t have to come crashing down?

We needed to show how IBM Spectrum Accelerate would impact their bottom line - what better way than side by side comparison of Jules and poor Mike?
